Tips for Completing your Stafford or PLUS Loan Application and Master Promissory Note (MPN) Online

Before you begin completing your Stafford or PLUS Loan Application and Master Promissory Note (MPN) online, you should make sure you've done the following tasks.

• You must fill out the Free Application for Student Aid (FAFSA) prior to completing your MPN. More information about the FAFSA is on our Web site and available from your school.
• Contact the financial aid office at your school to ensure you've completed all the necessary paperwork.
• If you're signing your MPN electronically, you may need to have your PIN number which was mailed to you around the time you completed your FAFSA. If you don't have your PIN number visit the Department of Education's Pin Request and Information site.
• You will need to provide at least two references on your MPN. Both references can not live at the same address and both addresses must be in the United States. You'll need to provide a complete address, telephone number, and their relationship to you.
