John Barber
Adviser, NELA Center for Student Success, Oregon

John Barber joined the NELA® Center for Student Success in Oregon as an adviser in the fall of 2010. He brings more than 20 years’ experience in higher education as an admissions counselor, college registrar, director of admissions and academic adviser. Over the years Barber has served at three Portland-area colleges, working with diverse student groups, from traditional high school seniors to adult nontraditional students returning to college.

Barber advises students in the Mentor 2 College® program on all aspects of preparing for college — from selecting a major and determining where to apply to school, to finding scholarships and completing the federal aid process. John also oversees the volunteer recruitment and training work for the Mentor 2 College program. He holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Oregon and a master’s degree from Fuller Seminary.
