The NELA® Centers for Student SuccessSM are changing their focus to better serve students who wish to pursue a postsecondary education. Going forward, the Centers will focus on the Mentor 2 College® program and the students in that program.
Mentor 2 College is designed to improve college access and success rates for low-income, first generation and minority students. The program provides personal mentoring and support services to help students complete the college application and enrollment process. To accommodate the focus on Mentor 2 College, the Centers are making the following changes in their programming.
Drop-In and Advising Activities
Beginning Jan. 1, 2012, the Centers no longer will provide services to drop-ins or schedule advising appointments for students who are not current participants in or alumni of the Mentor 2 College program.
In-Person and Online Workshops
Because of generous grant support, the Seattle Center will continue to offer in-person and online college planning workshops during 2012.
The Portland Center will fulfill all current obligations for in-person and online college planning workshops, but beginning Jan. 1, 2012, no longer will schedule additional workshops. Partners of the Portland Center will be able to continue to access online workshops available through the Seattle Center.
